I reached out to Dave as I was moving through a threshold into the next steps of my career. I had a very simple question about goal setting, or so I thought. I was thinking in very practical terms and with that mindset I went to meet him halfway between our homes, in the Old Friend´s Coffee in Nyuh Kuning. I posed the question and he facilitated me into a simple and quick process based on list writing and prioritization about values versus action dynamics; quickly into the process, he pointed out that one of my action list items was an absolute expression of a hidden insecurity. All of a sudden I saw the weight of heavy conditioning lighten up from my shoulders, and I released that I had created the most boring and unnecessary goal to put myself through.
Thanks to Dave’s passion for understanding people at a very deep and genuine level, I was able to discover that the path to my dreams was much more well kept than I let myself believe. What I thought was going to be a practical rundown on how to set goals, was a journey down one of my rabbit holes in the middle of a busy coffee shop with dogs barking at other dogs right next to us, on a busy street crowded with motorcycles and other Bali action.
I also appreciated that Dave seemed to be ready to, at any point, become vulnerable if he felt that it would help me understand how I was blocking myself from the whole picture. His connection to the place where we are all the same, made his offerings safe even with the chaos of dogs loudly barking.
